HISTORY

“Tga Franzestg” was the home of our cousin Franzestg Jeger, the son of a Swiss father and Italian mother, who was a farmer and shepherd in Riom throughout his life.

Buzzetti Pietro was our great-grandfather, who used to walk from the Italian Spluga Valley to Val Surses in the summers to work as a mower. His daughter Rosalia began working as a housekeeper in the homes of local bourgeoisie until she met a boy from the Jeger family and married him. Franzestg was born from this marriage and lived in Riom until 2007.

The original building consists of four hinges positioned side by side on a stone foundation supported by large horizontal beams, still visible in the tavern and basement.

The house has been renovated while preserving many original wooden elements dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries, including parts of the hinge (interlocking wooden structure), floors, ceilings, and the central chimney. This is why some of the original doors retain their reduced height.

Originally, the main house was connected by a covered wooden bridge to the stable (now a warehouse) still present behind the building, allowing for management of animals indoors during winter.

“As a boy, I had the opportunity to spend holidays in this house, and after Franzestg’s passing, it was my heartfelt dream to restore this building full of memories…

It has been a long adventure… but now a new generation of our family will continue to enjoy pleasant moments in this beautiful village in the canton of Graubünden….Paolo”
