‘Solee Caterina’ is a cosy and warm attic on the third floor, featuring a magnificent arched window facing south, offering a panoramic view of the mountains of the Spluga Valley. Surrounded by greenery and just a few steps from the woods, it is located on the top floor of a historic building dating back to the 1700s with original exposed stone walls and a wooden roof. An authentic place, ideal for a relaxing holiday surrounded by nature, just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Madesimo.

Our attic covers an area of 60 square metres and offers two separate bedrooms, sleeping a total of four people.
The living room features a large arched window and a wooden ceiling with exposed beams. The Alpine-style furnishings include a sofa and a solid wood table with three chairs and a chest. The wood-burning fireplace divides the space from the open kitchen, which is fully equipped with crockery and appliances.
TV/SAT television. Wi-Fi internet access is free of charge. Please note that the system is of the ‘Eolo radio Wiperlan’ type, so it may be subject to slowdowns and service interruptions due to bad weather or particular snow conditions.
The living room leads to a large larch wood terrace, where you can relax comfortably while sipping a coffee or reading a book. Outside, in a shared area, we offer a solid wood table and space for parking one car.
A convenient footpath starts in front of the house, taking you to the “Scalotta” woods in a few minutes and, in about 30 minutes, to the Andossi mountain huts and pastures.

WHERE WE ARE
Solee Caterina is located in Madesimo in the Spluga Valley, at the top of the quiet Via Scalcoggia, 600 metres from the centre of Madesimo. The pedestrian area and the ski slopes of the Lago Azzurro chairlift, part of the Valchiavenna Ski Area, are 500 metres away (a 10-15 minute walk or a 2-minute drive).

HISTORY
‘Solee’ is a dialect word meaning attic.
Our attic was created by renovating the top floor of this 18th-century rural building, built entirely of exposed local stone, maintaining its original features, with the addition of an arch made of local mortar on the main façade and the reconstruction of the terrace in local larch wood. The entrance on the ground floor still retains its typical interlocking beam and stone ceiling, vaulted cellar and internal staircase in local stone. Some old wooden doorways and small windows have been preserved in the corridors.
Our great-grandmother Caterina Pilatti in De Marchi lived in the first half of the 20th century, spending her summers here, devoting herself to life in the mountain pastures and the gathering of medicinal herbs, the secrets of which she kept to herself.
Originally, the structure was divided according to the needs of the farmers.
The stable and cellar were on the ground floor. The fire room for processing milk and cooking food was on the first floor. The bedrooms were on the second floor. The attic storage room was on the third floor, with a wooden terrace. The latter was also used for naturally drying food in the sun and wind.
